ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

College Of Medicine, Southeast University (Formerly known as ‘Nanjing Railway Medical College’ ). Southeast University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China. It originated as Sanjiang Normal College in 1902.In April 2000, “Nanjing Railway Medical College”, “Nanjing College of Communication” and “Nanjing Geological Schools” were merged into the university to form Southeast University, a comprehensive university which is rated as one of the best in China.

Main features of Southeast University

• Southeast University (SEU) is one of the national key Universities administered directly by the Ministry of Education of China

• It is one of the first universities accredited by the State Council to determine and approve the qualifications of professors, associate professors and doctorial supervisors.

• It is one of the universities of”Project 211” and “985 Program”. This is a special central government program to develop a few selected universities as a world – class institutions by providing extra funds and resources.

• The university boasts of over 40 schools or departments with 60 undergraduate disciplines in all. It also has 15 post-doctoral stations, and offers 105 PhD programs and 200 Master programs.

• At present, the full-time students number over 26000, of whom about 9000 are postgraduates.

• Average undergraduate employment rate is 99% upon graduation.

• Southeast University is one of the top 10 universities in scientific research and development in China.

• It has over 20 national or provincial research institutes, with a number of key research bases.

• SEU is affiliated to Zhongda Hospital, which was set up in 1935, is one of the first hospitals in Jiangsu Province that was assessed as “ Class A ,Grade 3” hospital by the State Ministry of Public Health.

• Since 1978, more than 4000 teachers, researchers have been sent abroad for academic activities or exchanges, over 3500 foreign experts and teachers have been invited to our university for lecturing, research or academic exchanges.

• More than 1400 international students from 60 countries have studied in this university.

• The University has also hosted 84 International conferences in all.

Medium of Instruction

International students will be taught in English. However, students are required to learn Chinese language and appear for HSK, the national language exam. Students will have to attend Chinese language classes for the first year.

Hostel & other Facilities

The hostel offers excellent facilities at a very reasonable cost. Each room has a private shower, toilet, AC, telephone and television a study table and a cupboard. Only two students share the room.
All class rooms are multimedia aided, and air conditioned. There are banks, post office, super markets, dining hall, hospital and sports facilities very near the international student hostel.

Food

Dining facilities on campus offer Chinese and Indian style menus. The food on offer is relatively inexpensive between $1 and $2, depending on what u choose. Besides, there are many small restaurants near the campus.

Location

Southeast University is situated in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, just 4 hours drive from Shanghai. It is situated in the heart of Nanjing city. To the west of SEU is the Purple Mountain and to the south is the Picturesque Xuanwu Lake.
